Tony, the founder of Big Fish Results, used to get that feeling. A lot.

Back in 2003, long before Big Fish Results, Tony created the first online bakery.
He developed a method for putting pictures on cakes and won the Crystal Apple Award for Best New Product at the NYC Incentive Show, beating out giants like Sony. His website had tons of traffic. He was shipping high-end birthday cakes all over the country. He had celebrity clients like Jay-Z and Jennifer Lopez. The Clinton Presidential Library even ordered 20k cookies for their opening ceremony.
Tony thought he’d hit it huge. But then it all came crashing down.
“I was thousands of dollars in debt, living in my sister’s basement, and expecting my first child. It was like I was punched in the stomach and stabbed in the heart when my business failed. I didn’t even want to wake up to face tomorrow.”
You see, great products weren’t enough. Awards weren’t enough. Celebrity clients weren’t enough. Great website traffic wasn’t even enough.
His problem was that he didn’t know WHAT he didn’t know. He didn’t have the right tools to make the business growth predictable and sustainable. Sadly, most small businesses don’t.
In the 2010 census, there were 27.9 million small businesses. By the time the 2020 census is completed, 70% of those will have failed – 19.5 million small businesses will have closed up shop to be replaced by other new small businesses.
A major problem for small businesses is that there are so many balls to keep in the air all the time just to stay alive. Ask yourself:
Do you have enough time and money to do the things you want in life?
How much time do you spend working, thinking and worrying about the business?
How much money have you wasted trying to figure out how to grow faster?
The most critical balls are the sales and marketing, right? If you don’t have a steady stream of new clients coming in, then you don’t have predictable revenue or predictable growth, which costs you time and money.
You may not be a salesperson or marketer, but you have to be one anyway because you need to take care of your family and your employees. You just don’t want to waste time and money doing it wrong. Too much is at stake.
Back in 2003, these were all problems for Tony but he had no idea how to fix them. And his online bakery business failed as a result.
